Project/Problem Based Learning is a series of complex strategies teachers can use in their classrooms to help engage students in deeper thinking and engaging in real-world problem-solving. Students are presented with a challenge or a question that is so “tasty” that they can not help but dig into the learning.

These “recipe cards” for Project/Problem Based Learning are intended for teachers to use with K12 students in groups, as well as with individual students. Amazing learning is “cooked up” as each card puts students into the roles of Time Travelers, Artists & Inventors, Historian Challenges, StoryTellers, Problem Solvers, Scientist Challenges or exploring Career & Tech Education.

Set 1 of the LifePractice PBL recipe cards include projects for:

Pompeii & Circumstance - Go back in time to save the citizens of Pompeii

Martian Colony - Design a pan for a Martian colony

Viking Ship - Create a scale-model Viking ship as you learn beyond the slash-and-burn archetype of the complex civilization

No “Wright” Answer - Re-imagine the airplane as if the Wright brothers never built theirs

All About Tornadoes - Create a book, audio, or video-based story that teaches about tornadoes

Doomsday 1 - Save the Earth from a killer asteroid

Open a Store - Plan and open an online store with a plan for generating profits

The cards are meant to help beginning PBL teachers integrate essential core content of Social Studies, Science, Math, Reading, and Writing, while deeply embedding creativity, problem-solving, and collaborative learning in each student, with or without the use of technology tools. Likewise, experienced PBL teachers are able to quickly use these cards for inspiration and support in creating their next PBL lessons.

This app also includes support videos, the ability to track the utilized practice standards, and even a way to create your very own customized photo gallery of your projects in action!
